The promotional merchandise industry has seen a huge increase in the amount of ‘eco’ products that are now available.
As there has been such a change over the last few years, we can appreciate that it can be a little overwhelming. But fear not… that’s what we are here for!
Below, we have devised an ‘Eco Material Bible’ to help you understand a little more about the materials that promotional products can be made from.
Bamboo – One of the fastest growing plants on Earth, naturally pest resistant absorbing twice as much carbon dioxide than trees
Cotton – A natural fibre that grows on the seed of the cotton plant. Cotton is sustainable, renewable and biodegradable
Wheat Straw – A bi product from reclaimed agricultural waste after the wheat has been harvested. It is durable and 100% biodegradable
Juco – Is a fine blend of both jute and cotton. By taking the benefits of both jute and cotton, juco puts forward the best of the qualities of both
Cork – Natural, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable, cork is one of the best alternatives to leather and plastics
Corn Starch – A renewable material which does not emit greenhouse gases. Cornstarch plastic products look and feel just like regular plastic but they are 100% biodegradable and compostable
Bioplastics – Plastics derived from renewable feedstocks such as starch. They have a lower carbon footprint and do not waste crude oil in the manufacturing process. Some can be composted while others must be recycled
Sugar Cane – A natural and renewable material that actively captures CO2 from the atmosphere whilst releasing oxygen at the same time. It’s very versatile and has a high durability which is evident as it’s being used more and more an an eco packaging alternative
PLA – This stands for Polyactic acid which is a vegetable based plastic materials which commonly uses starch as a raw material. It’s a natural degradable polymer designed to substitute other plastics
Rice Husk – Is a product of the rice milling industry which is available in rice producing countries. It contains no chemicals and is compostable
Jute – A natural vegetable fibre that needs very little irrigation to harvest. Jute fibre is entirely biodegradable and compostable. It also does not use pesticides or fertilisers in the growing process
Wood – A renewable, recyclable and natural material making it carbon positive. It’s extremely durable and versatile
With such a wide range of materials available, we’re confident that you’ll find the perfect product for your brand whilst keeping the environment in mind!
